Why not a house-boat anyway

Now it is November and still didn’t found a house; was on a Saturday-morning in a school where my sons had a programming introduction course. While waiting, I’ve got a call from my dad where I expressed I was getting confused about all these houses. I laughed and said I think I was liking the houseboats the most; he didn’t laugh, but said this could be a possibility.

So why not bringing this up to my soulmate-partner? Show her again the pictures of the nice house-boat for sale in our city and tell that this is still a possibility. Remember my wish that I expressed in Greece? She didn’t laugh, but said it could be a possibility. But we don’t know how it is to live on such a boat; we know there is a few house-boats nearby our work, so why not stop and ask the people how life is to live on a boat?

First house-boat is a big one, the French ‘peniche’ of 38 meters long and 5 meter wide. It looks huge and luxurious. Doubt that this would ever be possible within our budget and the money we can every still save in our life.

Second house boat is a smaller one, the Dutch ‘platschuit’ of about 25 meters long and 5 meters wide. It looks ok for a couple but a bit small for additional kids. Daily work need a bit creativity and fantasy, like how to wash and dry the clothes.

Still don’t know what is right; we will not worry about it too much.

In the meanwhile, finding more and more information about house-boats:

‘Tjalks’ are Dutch ships around 15 meters long;think of about 50m² water surface.

'Katwijkers’ are Dutch ships around 25 meters long; Think of about 100m² water surface.

‘Spitsen’ are Belgian ships of about 38 meters long and 5 meters wide; Think of about 200m² water surface.

‘Kempenaars’ are Belgian ships of about 57 meters long and 6 meters wide; Think of about 400m² water surface.

A ‘Spits’ would be great, but is it not too big to maintain? Maybe look for something smaller.
